The new licensing system introduced by the central government is not clear enough, so cotton exports are in a mess.


The central government of India banned cotton exports in April 19th. However, due to protests by cotton growers, the government lifted the ban in May 21st and managed exports with a new permit system.


N M Sharma, chairman of the Gujarat cotton Cooperatives Association, said, "for stakeholders, how can they be based on the Central Committee?"

According to the cotton outlook data in May 11th, the export contracts registered in India were approximately 8 million 526 thousand packages (170 kilograms), of which 7 million 356 thousand packages had been exported.


An official of the Cotton Corp in India said the shipment of 1 million 170 thousand bales of cotton remained unresolved.


At present, the price of cotton in Gujarat is 29800 rupees / 356 kilograms.
